Story by Staff Sgt. Matthew Benedetti

    376th Air Expeditionary Wing

TRANIST CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan - Besh Kungei, Kyrgyzstan dentists from the 376th Expeditionary Medical Group at the Transit Center at Manas recently traveled to the Besh Kungei Trauma Center for an informational dental exchange with their military counterparts.

The visit was part of a continuing informational exchange program that familiarizes Transit Center airmen and their Kyrgyz Republic colleagues with one another’s methods, practices and techniques.
The 376 EMDG Commander, Col. (Dr.) Frank Allara and Capt. (Dr.) Cody Krech, met with Krygyz Republic Lt. Aibek Mamadiyanov and observed him performing dental procedures throughout the morning. Afterwards, the three dental professionals spent time discussing their craft and comparing various methods relative to their work.

Krech was impressed with Mamadiyanov’s innovative approach. “They opened my eyes to different techniques. We are accustomed to relying solely on technology and to see our partners be successful with different capabilities is noteworthy,” said Krech, a native of Barlow, Ky., who is deployed from Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

“I admired Lt. Mamadiyanov’s preparations and handiwork,” said Krech.

Lt. Mamadiyanov found the visit to be productive. “We learn a lot from American doctors about advanced techniques to better treat our patients. We do not possess the latest diagnostic equipment but after working with Drs. Allara and Krech, we have a greater understanding of how to use the tools we do have,” said Mamadiyanov.

“Dentistry is not only a science but it has always had an artistic component. Throughout the years, we have become so reliant on technology that we have allowed it to replace the art,” said Allara, a native of Forest Hills, Ky., who is deployed from the Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. “Dr. Mamadiyanov is an artist. If you are limited with supplies, there are still workarounds to attain the same goals.”

Both parties share a sense of camaraderie and look forward to future exchanges.

“We have a great relationship with our Krygyz Republic partners and have much in common,” Krech said. “We discussed the possibility of lecturing at the dental school in order to reach a larger population. Our partnership continues to grow.”
