KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – The Afghan National Army, along with their American partners, found an insurgent weapons cache in southern Afghanistan, Aug. 7.
The 1st Kandak, 1st Brigade, 205th Corps ANA and the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division identified a compound containing military grade munitions in the Shah Wali Kot district, Kandahar province during an afghan led patrol.
The ANA also detained one suspect who was found with the weapons cache and brought him back to a local ANA compound for questioning.
The Afghan National Security Forces, which includes the ANA, has largely been assuming responsibility for security in southern Afghanistan.
A ceremony was held in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, July 18 to commemorate the official transition of responsibility for security within the city and the northern district of Arghandab to the ANSF.
International Security Forces in Kandahar City and Arghandab will fill an advisory role to the ANSF and assist with intelligence collecting assets for Afghan led operations.
Other districts in the Kandahar province are in the process of transition as ISAF looks to end its combat mission in the country at the end of 2014.
