News: ANSF, ISAF thwart insurgent attacks in Kunar

BAGRAM, Afghanistan – Afghan and ISAF forces successfully repelled multiple insurgent attacks throughout eight districts in Kunar province, Aug. 3.
Intelligence received overnight alerted both Afghan and ISAF of the attacks before they occured.
"They [the Kandak] were already ready," said Lt. Col Rhamdil, the 2nd Kandak Commander for the 2nd Brigade of the 201st Afghan National Army, who defended Marawara district. “I gave stand-to order to the whole Kandak.”
According to ISAF reports and Rhamdil, the 2nd Kandak was able to move from the defense to the offense and drive the insurgents, who disquised themselves as women, from the district.
"They used women's burkas to pass themselves back into their villages," said Rhamdil.
Current reports indicate eight inusurgents, one child and one woman were killed and two Afghan policemen were wounded in all of the attacks throughout the province.
No ISAF forces were killed or wounded during the attacks.
