CAMP CEDDAR, Iraq– As the Global War on Terrorism continues, so does the coming and going of US troops in Iraq.

An intra-company transfer of authority took place recently where troops from 1st Platoon, 119th Inland Cargo Transfer Company replaced soldiers of 2nd platoon.

"I am humbled to have had the honor to serve with the men and women of this platoon in defense of our nation for the past year," said 1st Lt. Adam Van Dusen, 2nd Platoon leader, 119th Inland Cargo Transfer Company.

1st platoon troops will now take over the mission of transporting logistical supplies to forward assets.

"I know our jobs may look and sound easy, but it isn't," said 19-year-old Cargo Spc. Leea Hanish, 2nd PLT, 119th ICTC.

Over the past 12 months second platoon received and trans-shipped over 781 vehicles, issued over 76,000 cases of meals ready to eat or MREs, and logged well over 68,000 miles on the dangerous highways of Iraq.

"What make's our jobs difficult is the austere climate, road conditions and the constant insurgency threat to our lives every time we go out," Hanish added.

After Van Dusen's formal request to be relieved of his duties were granted, 1st platoon leader, 1st Lt. Shantel Chavis brought her platoon to attention and with one crisp salute, proudly proclaimed her readiness to take on her year-long mission of cargo transport.

"Today I am honored to be given this opportunity to serve amongst the Army's finest," said Chavis.

"The exceptional soldiers of the 119th deploy every year and with every mission, we have been known to exceed the standard. Given the opportunity to replace one of our own, first platoon gladly takes on the challenge to live up to their legacy and this time will be no different,' Chavis said.

After the transfer of authority was completed, Colonel Stephen R. Lyons, 82d Sustainment Brigade Commander, took the time out to recognize and award the Bronze Star to Van Dusen and his platoon sergeant, Staff Sgt. Richard Bullard.

"I would argue that the measure of your success here in Iraq is defined through the relationships you formed," said Lyons.

"You define what our country is doing here in the desert and that is upholding freedom," Lyons said.
