ANA commandos capture IED specialist in Tarin Kowt

URUZGAN, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army soldiers attached to the 8th Commando Kandak conducted a unilateral operation that resulted in the capture of an improvised explosive device specialist in the city of Tarin Kowt, Tarin Kowt district, June 30.

The 8th Kandak conducted the operation to reduce the regional IED threat and improve the district’s stability.

In addition to removing a dangerous IED facilitator from the battlefield, the 8th Kandak confiscated 40 liters of a chemical solution used to produce IEDs, said a coalition representative. This operation will disrupt the insurgent’s ability to carry out attacks on civilians, Afghan forces and coalition partners in the Tarin Kowt area.

This operation was the first unilateral mission conducted by the 8th Kandak, said a coalition representative. They gathered their own intelligence, developed a mission plan and carried out a successful operation independent of coalition oversight.

In addition to making it more difficult for insurgents to threaten and intimidate the region’s residents, the 8th Kandak demonstrated their ability to successfully conduct autonomous operations.
