Military intelligence soldiers stay sharp with new European Foundry Platform program in Grafenwoehr

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — U.S Army, Europe, teamed up with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command recently to establish the European Foundry Platform, April 16, 2012. The command is located at Camp Aachen on the Grafenwoehr training area.

The purpose of establishing the command with JMTC in Grafenwoehr is to enhance the operational readiness and provide improved intelligence support to U.S. and multi-national soldiers across Europe.

“The Foundry Program is an Army-funded intelligence training program that assists Commanders by serving as the coordination point to obtain intelligence training opportunities and to leverage intelligence capabilities otherwise not available at the tactical echelon or through the institutional training system,” said Tod Stimpson, Director of the European Foundry Platform.

Military Intelligence professionals are always seeking soldiers of exceptionally high intelligence, but just like any occupation in the military, it requires special skills, but like any skill set, it needs to be exercised and constantly approved.

The EFP training facilities at Grafenwoehr are designed to host intelligence architecture and numerous information networks, and workspaces for cadres and instructors.

“A lot of times, MI soldiers are unable to perform their duties or train on the job because of security measures and network limitations. The EFP allows them to apply their skills, rather than just plugging in equipment, and not really knowing how to use it,” said Stimpson.

Human Intelligence, intelligence analysis skills, and Measurement, Signature and Intelligence are some of the skills taught at the EFP. Currently the EFP consists of two buildings with a total of five classrooms and can be tailored for specific intelligence instruction.

The skills of a military intelligence soldier aren’t static. Once they graduate from the U.S Army Intelligence school, they must be constantly honed and improved. “Soldiers need to keep redefining skills once they graduate from Fort Huachuca.”

“The operations on the battlefield along with technology are constantly changing.” said Stimpson “The EFP is here to keep soldiers trained and up to date”.
