CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan - In the first meeting of its kind, local district leaders and Afghan National Security Force commanders met for an important shura in Musa Q'ala, May 20. The leaders and senior officials gathered to discuss the next steps in developing security and affirmed their commitment to joint planning between the government and the security forces in the future.
Hosted by the Musa Q'ala District Governor Niamatullah Samim, the event brought together the district governors from Now Zad, Kajaki, Nahr-e Saraj and Sangin along with commanders from the Afghan National Army, Police and the Security Directorate.
At the end of the event the delegates drew up a letter to the Provincial Governor to outline their priorities and their plans for cooperation across their district boundaries. The delegates agreed to meet again on a regular basis in various locations across Northern Helmand.
