Uruzgan leadership offers condolences to victims of suicide bombing

URUZGAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Amir Mohammad Akhundzada, Uruzgan’s provincial governor, offered a message of condolence and gratitude during a provincial administration meeting in the Deh Rawud district, May 21.

An insurgent suicide bomb attack at Tarin Kowt’s provincial police headquarters killed two International Security Assistance Force members May 20.

“I was moved by the service member’s sacrifice and will remember them and their families in my prayers,” said Akhundzada.

After the main meeting, coalition special operations forces representatives met with the governor and discussed the recent attack on coalition forces and civilians.

Akhundzada stated that he was committed to pursuing and prosecuting the perpetrators of the suicide bomb attack. In addition to the two ISAF members killed, reports indicate nine ISAF service members were injured and five civilians were killed or injured, including children.

“It is important to note that despite the recent attack, all major provincial leaders attended the meeting,” said a coalition SOF representative. “This is a good indicator that the government is moving forward with the business of running a province.”
