CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan - This week the officers and soldiers of the 3rd Brigade of the 215th Corps of the Afghan National Army ANA delivered food and cooking oils to the people of Gereshk.

Under the direction of Colonel Moneer a convoy from Camp Shorabak shortly drove to the centre of Gereshk where they were met by the District Governor, Mohammad Saleem Rodi.

With trucks laden with rice, beans, sugar, chai and cooking oil, the men of 3rd Brigade hoped for a healthy turn out of local residents, but what happened was simply unexpected. An estimated 2,500 local people came to receive the kind gifting and provided an ecstatic welcome to the soldiers.

"We are very happy that the ANA are here with food and cooking oil," commented one local man. "We really appreciate the gift and we support what they are doing" he added.

The District Governor, Mohammad Saleem Rodi and Colonel Moneer conducted a shura with local elders and tribal leaders, where the commitment of the ANA to security and development in the Gereshk area was discussed and praised.

As one man commented "The men, women and children of Gereshk will eat well tonight, thanks to the soldiers of 3rd Brigade, 215 Corps Afghan National Army."

Released with the kind permission of the Public Affairs Officer of 3/215 Brigade.
