ANP train ALP candidates near Bala Zhira village

KANDAHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan sent graduates of the Afghan National Police Academy to train Afghan Local Police candidates near Bala Zhira village, Arghistan district, Kandahar province, April 27.

As part of Village Stability Operations, the ALP program is an Afghan Ministry of the Interior sponsored, village-focused security program, which compliments counterinsurgency efforts. It assists and supports rural areas with limited to no Afghan National Security Force presence in order to enable conditions for improved security, governance and development.

Training ALP helps the ANP by having someone in the area that knows the people, knows the area and knows who sides with the Taliban, said Haji Mohammad, an ANP member.

Villagers from both Bala Zhira and the nearby village Shamezi attended the ALP training, which was conducted in an abandoned compound outside Bala Zhira.

“I want to join the ALP to help protect my family, my village and help support my government,” said Naqeeb Wlab, an ALP candidate.

ALP candidates are trained on Afghanistan’s Constitution, laws, patrolling techniques, bomb detection, manning checkpoints, basic rifle marksmanship and other security tasks.

“It was very helpful having the ANP here to give the training,” said Abdul Raziq, an ALP candidate.

Raziq added that he enjoyed learning about his country’s constitution and he will take the knowledge back to his village and share it with his people.
