    Western New York armed forces luncheon to feature USAF guest speaker

    BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Western New York Armed Forces Week Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, May 10, 2012 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the New York Army National Guard's Connecticut Street Armory in Buffalo.

    Hosted this year by the U.S. Air Force and sponsored by the Western New York Armed Forces Week Committee in cooperation with Military, Industrial, Civic and Veterans' Organizations, this 52nd annual event is a tribute to the men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces.

    The Armed Forces Week Luncheon is an event filled with military customs and tradition and will feature this year's guest speaker, USAF Maj. Gen. William Bender.

    Maj. Gen. Bender is Commander, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. The Expeditionary Center is the Air Force's Center of Excellence for advanced expeditionary combat support training and education.

    All Airmen preparing to deploy overseas will transit through and train at an Expeditionary Center to learn the skills needed to operate successfully in a deployed environment.

    Media are invited to this event. Those interested in interviewing the General should contact the 914th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Office at 716-236-2136 no later than 8:00 am on Thursday, May 10, 2012. Interviews with the General will take place before the Luncheon at 10:45 am on the second floor of the armory.

    The public affairs office is also available to arrange any pre-event interviews with various other individuals to include this year's Armed Forces Week Chairwoman retired Col. Patricia Braun at any time during the event.
