YOKOSUKA, Japan - Defense Logistics Agency employees at Yokosuka, Japan, gathered for a town hall meeting during DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek’s visit there March 12.

Members of DLA Disposition Services joined their DLA Distribution colleagues at their facility for the meeting.

Bill Yoder, one of the DLA Disposition employees present, said Harnitchek “praised DLA folks for the hard work, meeting deadlines and the great service provided to the customer.” Yoder said the director also commented on the quick reaction provided by DLA after the earthquake that struck Japan, March 11, 2011.

Yoder also received some recognition of his own when Harnitchek presented him with a certificate honoring Yoder’s 40 years of service. During the presentation, the director also presented Yoder with a coin to thank him for the briefing and tour provided before the town hall at DLA Disposition Services at Sagami.

“I was pretty proud to be recognized in front of other DLA folks at Yokosuka by our DLA director,” Yoder said. “It's a great feeling to be recognized.”

During the tour of Sagami, the admiral received an overview of the site’s area of responsibility that included highlights from each branch there, Yoder said. It also gave Harnitchek the chance to meet Sagami employees like Hideki Fujita, who received a coin as well.

Harnitchek went on from his stops in Japan to visit Hawaii as he continued his weeklong trip to see the agency’s operations in the Pacific theater. His visits there included tours of other DLA Disposition Services sites and the agency’s fuel facilities.
