ALP class graduates in Uruzgan province

URUZGAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Afghan Local Police welcomed its newest members during a graduation ceremony in Khas Uruzgan district, Feb. 28.

The assistant district deputy chief of police, district ALP leadership and members of coalition special operations forces attended the ceremony to witness 16 volunteers from surrounding villages join the ALP ranks.

The graduates completed a three-week course instructed by Afghan National Army special forces soldiers, which covered basic policing procedures, weapons handling and other skills necessary to protect and defend Afghan citizens.

After the ceremony, the men received weapons, identification cards and boots from the assistant deputy chief of police. The ALP graduates will be responsible for providing direct security to their villagers and establishing new checkpoints in the district.

“The graduation of ALP members is an important accomplishment in the development of an Afghan-led security force in Khas Uruzgan district,” said Cmdr. Mike Hayes, Special Operations Task Force-South East commander. “With the new members all being volunteers from surrounding villages, it shows the people are serious about taking control of their own security.”
