    GHOR, Afghanistan – On Feb. 9 in Afghanistan's Ghor provincial capital Chaghcharan, provincial police headquarters, 63 new afghan policemen received a police basic patrol course certificates and, will be able to start their duties in all districts of Ghor. This course was organized by Lithuanian-led Police operation mentoring liaison team - 3.

    The six-week course was consisted of the theoretical and practical knowledge that is crucial for the further service. Lithuanian-American instructors taught the most important police tactics, basic first aid, counter-improvised explosives detecting and neutralizing and live firing practice. In Theoretical classes’ police officers were trained in law, religion, culture and grammar basics.

    One of the key objectives for POMLT-3 is independent provincial police training; special attention is given to Afghan instructors for the selection and preparation.

    Police operating a third shift training group consisting of Lithuanian and U.S. soldiers, led by lieutenant colonel Ricardas Pocius. Since the beginning of 2011 POMLT-3 already prepared 297 policemen.

    Currently, PRT-14 which is formed on the basis of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Forces 5th territorial unit Vytis Military District is deployed in Afghanistan Ghor Province.

    Lithuanian-led Ghor Provincial Reconstruction Team is a joint civilian-military mission, part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force, which started functioning in Ghor province in summer 2005. The PRT's task is to support the central government in expanding its authority throughout the province, providing security and stability and establishing proper conditions for the reconstruction of the province. The PRT composition also includes military and civilian personnel from Georgia, Japan, the USA, Poland, Finland, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
