SOUTHWEST ASIA - Senior Airman Alaina C. Howard, a gunner with a security element in Southwest Asia, recently deployed from the 49th Security Forces Squadron out of Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.
Howard, a native of Miami, Florida, along with other security forces members from the 49th Security Forces Squadron, deployed together with a team made up of security forces members from the 175th Security Forces Squadron, Maryland Air National Guard. Together they form an expeditionary security element assigned to provide security for airmen performing missions off U.S. military installations.
“For active duty security forces, this is a once-in-a-lifetime mission” said Howard. “To get to work together on a day-to-day basis like this is a completely different experience compared to back at our home stations, so rolling outside the wire with this team is very rewarding.”
Howard is deployed with her husband who is also security forces and says that even though she’s lucky to have him there with her, she misses having her whole family together the most.
This is Howard’s second deployment.
