Fort McPherson, Ga., (November 16, 2006) – Friends and family gathered to bid a final farewell to Maj. Pearlie Ann Lloyd during a memorial ceremony at the main chapel here.

The 42-year-old Florida native died on Nov. 9 at Fort Gordon, Ga.

During the ceremony, dozens of Lloyd's friends, family and co-workers shared their memories of the fallen military finance officer.

"She always displayed professionalism, determination and excellence, said Col. William Johnson, Lloyd's supervisor. She was so passionate, especially about her children. She was truly a great wife, mother and friend."

Lloyd served as a force management officer for Third Army/ARCENT.

Friends like Verna Irick-Adams and Maj. Pamela Green shed light on the devotion they had toward her as a friend.

"We loved and learned from Ann, said Irick-Adams. She was a breath of fresh air and her smile is something I won't forget."

"She will remain forever in our hearts," added Green, who sang a tribute song during the ceremony.

In military tradition, a roll call was called for members of Third Army/USARCENT. As it approached Lloyd's name a moment of silence followed by the cries of grieving family and friends came over the chapel as her name was called several times.

The ceremony closed as attendees knelt and prayed in front of the helmet, boots, ID tags and upended rifle symbolizing her lost to the unit.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters.
