    Story by Maj. Bradley Gordon

    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP LEATHERNECK, Helmand province, Afghanistan -- A new video highlights the 2nd Marine Division (Forward)’s most recent look into the men and women who make up Task Force Leatherneck in their fight against the Taliban-led insurgency through the eyes of the United States Marine Corps Female Engagement Team.

“Inside the FET” tells the story of the Female Engagement Team, the Corps’ solution to engaging the entire population of Helmand, adding depth to the counterinsurgency fight across southwest Afghanistan.

In this long-form news profile, you will see why the FET was created, learn about the team’s mission and capabilities, and see what infantry commanders on the ground have to say about the tangible results they have seen from having FET Marines alongside their infantrymen.

The video brings you insight through interviews with the officer in charge of the team, Capt. Susan “Suzi” McKinnley of Palo Alto, Calif.; Gunnery Sgt. Sonia Sanchez from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., the team’s staff noncommissioned officer in charge; and several members of the team, to include Sgt. Autum Sekely of Pittsburgh; Sgt. Sonia Silva of Boca Raton, Fla.; Sgt. Christina Scott of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Cpl. Susan Welch of Long Beach, Calif. Welch is one of the women touted by Helmand Provincial Governor Gulab Mangal for her extraordinary efforts in the aftermath of the recent suicide bombing in the Kajaki Sofla bazaar.

The vignette also includes interviews with Cedar Point, N.C., native, Lt. Col. George Benson, Capt. Brandon Turner of Catawba, N.C., and Capt. Curtis Shreve from Key West, Fla., of 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. The battalion commander, operations officer and a company commander talk about the courage, unique capabilities and benefits of having FET available to support their infantry battalion.

“Inside the FET” allows the public to hear directly from the women of the FET and the men who work shoulder-to-shoulder with them, day in and day out. This open and unfettered look at FET is provided to inform the public about a key element of the Marines’ efforts to support security and development in the province.

The vignette is available in high definition and can be downloaded at the following link: http://www.dvidshub.net/video/136783/look-inside-fet
