TIKRIT, Iraq – Members of the 25th Infantry Division Headquarters at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, participated in a combat patch ceremony Nov. 11.

The ceremony recognized those personnel for being deployed to a combat zone in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"It's more than just a piece of cloth. It's more than just a symbol that you made an overseas tour in some distant land," said Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon, 25th Inf. Div. commanding general. "From this day forward, you will always be an integral part, a veteran of the Tropic Lightning Division."

Mixon added that because of their contributions, the Soldiers receiving the combat patch are taking part in history.

Soldiers from the units being recognized serve at the division command post, protect the perimeter of COB Speicher, and go to other areas outside the COB to provide services and functions.

"(The patch) is a representation of the Soldiers who came before me, the Soldiers I serve with now, the Soldiers that are still to come in the U.S. Army and of our dedication and service to our country," said Sgt. Andrew Foxworthy, 25th Inf. Div. Tropic Lightning Band, and combat patch ceremony participant.

The following units participated in the ceremony: Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 25th Inf. Div.; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Special Troops Battalion; Company A, Special Troops Battalion; the 25th Inf. Div. Tropic Lightning Band; Company A, Special Troops Battalion Security Detachment; the 5th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment; and the 310th Psychological Operations Company.
