HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Lady Eagles of the University of Southern Mississippi’s women’s basketball team and their coach made a special visit to Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, Dec. 20.
Lt. Col. Brad Smith, CSJFTC deputy commander discussed with the team different comparisons of being a leader and making decisions in the military as to being a part of a team sport. From a military’s leader standpoint, Smith explained that leadership comes from preparing the soldier.
He compared training for a mission to practicing for a game. He said that everything works right when you are looking a play book, but if one person does something wrong, everything is thrown off. Smith then explained that the players would have to reassess the plans as such is done in the military.
Joye McNelis, USM’s Lady Eagles head basketball coach, presented Smith and Maj. Scott Lindley, assistant superintendent of Camp Shelby’s Maneuver Area Training Equipment with an autographed USM women’s basketball team schedule.
