MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- Lance Cpl. Marvin Colato, 19, and a native of Houston, Texas, has the job of guaranteeing that reserve Marines’ drilling periods are coordinated with the air station and that these Marines receive pay for these periods. He also ensures that Marine reservists, known as individual mobilization augmentees, are set up properly to complete annual training requirements aboard the air station.
Colato also guarantees that the reserve Marines he is responsible for have completed everything required to activate their orders.
“If my job didn’t exist all the information concerning these Marines would be floating out in space with no one to retrieve it,” said Colato. “They would not be paid for their drill or get promoted. This would definitely affect mission accomplishment and troop welfare.”
Colato said that despite occasional hassles in retrieving and transferring information, and the occasional difficulty in getting in touch with some Marines, the job is still very rewarding for him.
“Just knowing that the Marines I interact with are being taken care of is very rewarding for me,” said Colato. “I really enjoy making sure that everyone’s good to go.”
When Colato isn’t working, he enjoys playing soccer, running cross country, drawing and hip hop dancing.
