KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan— A team of civilian experts from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Task Force La Fayette soldiers recently completed renovation work on micro-hydroelectric power stations in eastern Afghanistan.
Funded by France, the 10 million Euro renovation project includes the construction of a power line between the provincial capital of Mahmud-e-Raqi and Nijrab.
The team visited the villages of Deh Amiri and Tawachiyan Sheerwane to monitor the status of work on the stations. Built several years ago by the Afghan Ministry of Rural Development and Reconstruction, the stations required maintenance and modernization to improve access to electricity in these remote rural areas.
The project calls for 20 micro-hydroelectric stations to power 800 homes in the Nijrab valley and is part of a larger program to complete the electrification of the Kapisa province.
