CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Forty-five New York Army National Guard soldiers from the Cortland Manor-based 727th Military Police Detachment are on their way to Afghanistan after training Fort Bliss, Texas, for the past month.
The soldiers of the 727th, who drill at Camp Smith Training Site here, left for their overseas duty station, Dec. 27.
The guardsmen and women were mobilized for 12 months of federal active duty, Nov. 27, 2011.
The unit is a law and order detachment, responsible for providing police services at United States and allied bases in Afghanistan.
