BAGHLAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Local villagers from Baghlan-e Jadid and Pol-e Khumri districts provided information to Afghan Local Police operating in the area of the locations of two improvised explosive devices Dec. 18.

Citizens reported the location of the first IED in Pol-e Khumri district at a nearby school. Upon arriving at the scene, local policemen cordoned off the area around the IED and notified coalition special operations forces who safely disarmed the device.

The second device was located along a heavily traveled road in Baghlan-e Jadid district. A local villager led an ALP candidate to the site. He then notified coalition forces who reduced the explosive device.

A coalition SOF team member stressed the importance of Afghans notifying Afghan National Security Forces about insurgent activities. “Afghans notifying their local security forces about IEDs shows the trust and confidence they have in them. This is crucial to the ongoing transition of security into Afghan hands,” said the SOF team member.
