PRESS RELEASE
CONTINGENCY OPERATIONS BASE SPEICHER, Iraq (Oct. 11, 2006) – Coalition Forces discovered two weapon caches and captured an insurgent suspected of launching mortars on Logistical Support Area Anaconda Oct. 11 near Balad.
After the attack, an unmanned aerial surveillance vehicle was immediately launched, which led a quick reaction force of Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, to a home where the suspect was found.
At the home, the Soldiers detained the suspect and discovered a weapons cache. The surveillance vehicle also led to the discovery of a second weapons cache between the home and the alleged launch site.
A total of 350 small arms rounds, 14 82 mm mortar rounds, one automatic assault rifle, and one mortar tube.
