FARAH, Afghanistan – Task Force Lonestar soldiers from 3rd Platoon, Troop B, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, taught small unit movement techniques to their Afghan Uniformed Police partners Oct. 19.
The instruction started with a classroom portion, in which the AUP were taught the advantages and disadvantages of different movement techniques based on the terrain and enemy situation.
After the classroom portion, the AUP moved into practical exercises where the AUP leadership took charge of their elements and executed the training.
“It was great to see the AUP leadership assume responsibility for their formations,” said 1st Lt. David Stewart, 3rd platoon leader. “It showed that they were eager to learn and apply their new knowledge.”
Stewart believes, “It is precisely that type of enthusiasm and dedication that will ensure they are successful in the future as an independent security force.”
When the movement technique practical exercise was complete, the AUP moved onto training for actions on contact.
“This type of practical exercise is crucial to the success of the AUP in Shewan Village, Bala Baluk district,” said Capt. Kyle Hoisington, Troop B commander. “Understanding how to effectively move as a unit is just as crucial as being able to fire your weapon.”
Training at this level and higher is essential to the success of the AUP.
“As they continue to apply what they learn to their daily operations, the [Afghan National Security Forces] will operate as a more professional and effective security force, serving and protecting the people of Afghanistan,” Hoisington said.
