BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – The 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, Task Force Talon, from Fort Drum, N.Y., formally handed over aviation operations in Regional Command-East to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade out of Fort Bragg, N.C., in a ceremony at Bagram Air Field, Oct. 18.

The transfer-of-authority ceremony signifies the end of a period of transition between the two units, and the formal start to the mission for the 82nd CAB, also known as “Task Force Poseidon.”

“For Task Force Talon, this ceremony marks the end of a year of unwavering commitment, selfless sacrifice, and total team success,” said Maj. Gen. Daniel Allyn, Combined Joint Task Force-1 and Regional Command East commanding general. “For Task Force Poseidon, this transfer of authority also marks an end. An end to the many months of focused training, intensive learning, and individual and collective training for the challenges that lie ahead.”

This is the fourth deployment to Afghanistan for TF Poseidon, who just returned to Fort Bragg from Regional Command South in April 2010.

It is also the largest deployment of aviation assets in RC-East history.

“The 82nd CAB has the fight,” said Col. T.J. Jamison, TF Poseidon commander. “We’ll become more proficient and lethal every day. Our crews appreciate the reason we’re here. First and foremost is to provide unparalleled aviation support to the soldier on the ground, whether that be a U.S., Afghan, or coalition soldier, it makes no difference to us.”

During their year-long deployment, 10th Mountain’s Task Force Falcon flew more than 135,000 rotary wing flight hours, while supporting more than 1,000 air-assault missions, 3,000 medevacs, and 535 close-combat attack missions, leaving a lot of expectations for TF Poseidon.

“I’m confident that you are the right unit at the right time to capitalize on the achievements of TF Falcon, and sustain CJTF-1’s momentum against the enemy, as we continue to progress toward irreversible momentum across the command.” said Allyn.

TF Poseidon is deployed in support of Combined Joint Task Force-1 and Regional Command-East for a year. Poseidon conducts a wide variety of aviation-related missions, including medevac, cargo transport, personnel transport, security, and attack missions.
