FORT KNOX, Ky. - U.S. Army NHRA Top Fuel drivers Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher and Antron Brown were at Firebird Raceway outside of Phoenix this weekend for the Arizona NHRA Nationals, while U.S. Army NASCAR Racing driver Ryan Newman was competing at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
Brown lost to Larry Dixon in the finals, but still managed to take over the lead in the NHRA's Countdown to the Championship standings, while Schumacher lost in the semifinals to Brown but sliced what was a 140-point deficit to 91 points.
Schumacher, fifth in the standings, will join Brown at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in two weeks, which is the next to the last race on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule.
On the U.S. Army NASCAR Racing side, driver Ryan Newman captured a 10th-place finish in Saturday night's Bank of America 500.
Newman, who moved up to 10th in the Chase for the Sprint Cup driver standings, will now head for Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway next Sunday.
