KABUL, Afghanistan — A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Muhammad Aghah district, Logar province.

The facilitator plans car bomb attacks in the Muhammad Aghah, Logar and Kabul districts.

The security force seized a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and ammunition for disposal at a later date.

North

In Kunduz district, Kunduz province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation. The leader is a roadside bomb expert and is responsible for providing explosives used in attacks against Afghan forces and local nationals. The security force also seized bomb-making material for safe destruction at a later date.

South

A combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol discovered a weapons cache in Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province, yesterday. The weapons cache consisted of 100 pounds (45 kg) of homemade explosives and 10 pressure plates. Security forces safely destroyed the improvised explosive device making materials.

In Kajaki district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader. The leader coordinates roadside bomb attacks and reports to senior-level leaders on the outcome of attacks in the region, as well as provides weapons and guidance to insurgent fighters in the area.

East

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader and killed one insurgent during a security operation in Achin district, Nangarhar province. The leader facilitated the movement of explosives and weapons from Pakistan to Afghanistan. One individual was observed holding a pistol. Assessing an immediate threat, the security force fired, killing one insurgent. Multiple additional suspected insurgents were also detained during the operation.

In Gelan district, Ghazni province, yesterday, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol detained numerous insurgents during an operation. The insurgents are suspected of being part of a network responsible for multiple attacks on Afghan and coalition forces. The insurgents were detained and taken in for processing and further questioning.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin leader and detained multiple additional suspected insurgents during an operation in Sabari district, Khost province. The leader coordinated and conducted roadside bomb attacks against Afghan forces in the Sabari district. The security force also seized multiple weapons during the operation.

In Zurmat district, Paktiya province, a combined Afghan and security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader. The leader manages insurgent activity and acquires weapons for use in attacks against Afghan forces in the Zurmat district.

Finally, in Deh Yak district, Ghazni province, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered and seized a weapons cache consisting of two 82 mm recoilless rifle rounds, six grenade fuses and ammunition yesterday.
