    KABUL, Afghanistan — A combined Afghan and coalition security force patrol killed a Taliban leader during an operation in Tagab district, Kapisa province, today.

    The leader is considered the main improvised explosive device facilitator in northern Tagab and is also responsible for multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout Kapisa province.

    During the operation, the insurgent leader opened fire on the security force, responding to the immediate threat the security force returned fire, killing the leader.

    One local national child was killed and another wounded during the operation. The two children were hidden and unidentified in the same room the leader was engaging the security force from.

    An immediate Shura was held with local nationals in the area and an additional Shura will be held with village elders to discuss the incident.

    In Nahr-E Saraj district, Helmand province today, a combined Afghan and coalition force patrol killed several insurgents including an insurgent leader during an operation that was ongoing throughout the week. The insurgent leader is a known lethal aid facilitator. He is directly responsible for organizing numerous attacks against ANSF and coalition forces throughout Helmand. The operation seized 99 pounds (45 kilograms) of refined opium, seven artillery rounds and a quantity of small arms and ammunition. The drugs and weapons were safely destroyed on site.

    A combined Afghan and coalition force patrol detained numerous insurgents during an operation in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The operation seized a quantity of small arms and ammunition. The weapons were safely destroyed on site. The insurgents were detained and taken in for processing and further questioning.

    In Shah Wali district, Kandahar province yesterday, a combined Afghan and coalition force patrol killed multiple insurgents and detained several others during an operation. The insurgents were killed after they engaged the ANSF and coalition force patrol with rocket propelled grenades, machine gun and small-arms fire. The insurgents were detained and taken in for processing and further questioning.

    A combined Afghan and coalition force patrol detained an insurgent during an operation in Khash Rod district, Nimroz province, yesterday. The operation seized a quantity of improvised explosive device components. The components were safely destroyed on site. The insurgent was detained and taken in for processing and further questioning.

    In Shah Joy district, Zabul province yesterday, an Afghan National Security Force and International Security Assistance Force patrol detained several insurgents and seized a small weapons cache during an operation. The operation seized one machine gun, two pistols and a quantity of improvised explosive device components. The components were safely destroyed on site. The insurgents were detained and taken in for processing and further questioning.

    A combined Afghan and coalition force patrol seized a small weapons cache during an operation in Gelan district, Ghazni province yesterday. The operation seized four grenades, two fuses and a quantity of mortar charges. The weapons were safely destroyed on site.
