GALVESTON, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract, July 1, to RazorTek LLC, an 8(a) small business, in the amount of $599,943.27 for the establishment of an enterprise Geospatial Information System database structure and for the creation of a user-friendly, web-enabled system.
“Geospatial information systems capture, store, analyze and manage geographically-referenced data, allowing users to create interactive queries, analyze spatial information, edit data and map results,” said Dr. Michael Sterling, Ph.D., chief of USACE Galveston’s Hydrology and Hydraulics Section. “When installed and operational, the system will allow for analysis, multiuser editing, centralized geospatial file storage, data standardization and also have the capability to interface with other Corps data systems.”
According to Sterling, the GIS project will improve project planning, analysis and communication within the Corps, resulting in more efficient project operations and maintenance.
“This contract allows the Galveston District to remain on the cutting edge of technology, while executing its navigation, flood risk mitigation, environmental, shoreline protection, regulatory, military construction and emergency management missions that the nation and Armed Forces depend upon,” said Sterling.
The USACE Galveston District manages an area that spans across 50,000 square miles, includes 700 miles of coastline from the Rio Grande to Sabine rivers, covering 48 Texas counties, two Louisiana parishes and 16 congressional districts.
