FORWARD OPERATING CAMP LIGHTING, Afghanistan - Afghan National Army officers from the 1 Forward Supply Depot conducted Core Inventory Management System Enterprise Edition training at Forward Operating Base Lightning, advanced another step closer to transitioning from a manual warehousing management system to a completely automated warehousing management system.

The ANA officers began the most difficult portion of a three-week initial training sessions which covers receiving, storing, shipping, reporting and labeling, said Alton Alexander, an 1st FSD ANA advisor.

“The initial level of Core IMS-EE training starts with receiving, followed by storage, shipping and concludes with reporting and labeling,” said Alton. “This stage is the longest and the most difficult portion of training, which sometimes require additional one-on-one training.”

The training begins with a basic familiarization to the computer system and concludes with the officers’ understanding of what Core IMS-EE system can provide.

“At the end of the all the training modules each student should have a solid grasp of what Core IMS-EE offers and how it can be used help advance operations here at the FSD,” said Alton.

The training received provides real-time controls for receiving, storage and material issue procedures. One of the major benefits is the built-in reports that are designed to facilitate warehouse management, general inquiry and problem resolution.

Practical exercises are administered at the end of each training block to measure training comprehension and re-enforces procedures prior to the start of the next training day.

“The training is structured for individual one-on-one or small group instruction,” said Alton. “There are different levels of Core IMS-EE, which require continual training over time. Basic entry-level comprehension is our short-term goal but achieving full proficiency is our long-term goal.”

“The FSD officers and NCOs are highly motivated to train on Core IMS-EE,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Latasha Bone, ANA chief advisor at the 1 FSD. “Even with the challenges of limited computer training their willingness to learn is apparent.”
