FORT KNOX, Ky. – Soldiers from the 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) volunteered to assist with Pierce Elementary School’s Field Day Tuesday, May 24.
The Sustainers assisted the school’s personnel with set-up and tear down during and after the event, as well as ran many of the game stations throughout the day.
During the Field Day, Pierce Elementary students were treated to arts and crafts, Zumba and relay races, to name a few.
The leadership at Pierce Elementary was pleased with the Sustainers efforts and appreciated their efforts.
“As always, the soldiers of the 3d ESC were really a great help,” said Dr. Wanda Bradley, Pierce Elementary principal and Gulfport, Miss., native. “We were shorthanded for this event but the soldiers came in, helped out and overall were a great help.”
“These soldiers really enjoyed working with the children and at times seemed to even be having more fun than the children.”
Dr. Bradley mentioned that this was the last event for the school year before the students begin their summer break. And even though this would be the last event, students were already looking forward to the next school term.
The 3d ESC partnered with Pierce Elementary soon after its return from Iraq in August of 2009, and has since become the schools official military sponsor.
Since then, the 3d ESC has sponsored several events for the school to include fall festivals, previous field day events and several reading events.
Staff Sgt. Jacinta Bonner, a transportation management coordinator and Pierce Elementary liaison, said that it’s always fun when assisting at the school’s events.
“It’s always nice to interact with the kids and have them see firsthand that we support them,” said Staff Sgt. Bonner.
