ZABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan national army special forces received weapons training from U.S. Special Operations Forces in the Shinkay District of Zabul province, April 26-27.
The training is designed to improve Afghan national army special forces’ handling skills and accuracy with machine guns and small arms. Afghan national army special forces received marksmanship training with AK-47 automatic weapon systems, and also practiced grazing fire out to 300 meters, according to a U.S. Special Operations advisor.
“The most responsive weapon when in the face of a tough, determined, and aggressive enemy is light and medium machine guns. Understanding the deployment and employment of these weapons systems can mean the difference between gaining fire superiority or not,” said the U.S. Special Operations advisor. “Our goal is to ensure our Afghan partners are not only proficient, but also skilled operators with their weapon systems.”
