    22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Marines and sailors of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit Command Element had their Desert and Woodland Marine-Pattern Utilities sprayed with permethrin aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 22.

This agent is a concentrated insect repellent designed to prevent potentially dangerous diseases and vector-borne illnesses. There are so many insects out there transporting parasites and diseases, said Chief Petty Officer Ernesto Moseley, Senior Enlisted Leader with the Preventive Medicine Unit, 2nd Medical Battalion. He went on to add this serves as an extra layer of protection for servicemembers.

Uniforms were lined up in rows while sailors from 2nd Medical Battalion sprayed the repellent. Even with multiple cleanings, these uniforms will be able to keep bugs away for approximately one year.

The Marines and sailors of the 22nd MEU are currently deployed with Amphibious Squadron 6 aboard the USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and will continue to train and test the MEU’s ability to operate as a cohesive and effective Marine Air Ground Task Force.

The 22nd MEU is a multi-mission capable force comprised of Aviation Combat Element, Marine Tilt Rotor Squadron 263 (Reinforced); Logistics Combat Element, Combat Logistics Battalion 22; Ground Combat Element, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment; and its Command Element.
