SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, completed the removal of clay from the beach at Isla Blanca Park, April 20.

Work crews removed approximately 4,000 cubic yards of clay during the 10-day project and graded the beach to restore it to a natural slope to the surf zone.

“Working with our city and county partners, we were able to restore the beach at Isla Blanca Park to normal operating conditions,” said Kenneth (Chip) Worley, resident engineer with USACE Galveston’s Brownsville Office. “We thank the residents and beachgoers of South Padre Island for observing safety signage while the clay removal project was in progress.”

According to Worley, the clay was deposited at Isla Blanca Park during the beach renourishment phase of the Brownsville Ship Channel dredging project.
