    KABUL, Afghanistan - The Afghan national security forces will hold a ceremony to stand up the 1st Brigade Afghan National Civil Order Police Special Support Battalion at ANCOP Training Center located in Kabul on April 9 at 10 a.m.

    The ANCOP Special Support Battalion mission provides logistical, transportation and medical support for all assigned and attached units of the ANCOP BDE. The SSB serves as the logistic link between the ANCOP Brigade headquarters and Regional Logistic Centers. They provide Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Special Weapons and Tactics, and Heavy Weapons capability.

    The Special Support Battalion consists of 310 personnel; to include 49 officers and 261 non-commissioned officers. It is broken down into a Headquarters element, Support Company, Transportation Company and Logistics Support Company.

    The Special Support Battalion has modern equipment to help them complete their mission. Which includes: Light Tactical Vehicle; Medium Tactical Vehicles; High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle 1151; HMMWV 1152; MTV Recovery Vehicle; Truck Fuel, 1100; LTV Maintenance Truck; and Wrecker Vehicles. Their weapons include: 40 mm Non Lethal; Grenade launcher 25/30 mm; sniper rifles; Machine Gun-NSV; PKM MG; RPG-7; Shotgun 12 GA; AK-47; Pistol 9mm; Explosive Ordinance Disposal Kit.

    Their communications include: High Frequency Base Station; HF Mobile; VHF Base Station; VHF Mobile; and VHF Handheld.
