    1st Marine Logistics Group

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Marines with Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, completed a two-week maintenance stand-down here, March 25.

During the stand-down, the Marines dedicated their time to repairing tactical vehicles organic to CLR-17, which are necessary to support other units within I Marine Expeditionary Force.

“[The maintenance stand-down] gives the unit an opportunity to do internal repairs,” said Staff Sgt. Albert J. Regalado, maintenance chief, HQ Company, CLR-17, 1st MLG. “Usually we focus on repairing other unit’s vehicles. This gives us a chance to focus on our own gear, and our gear has to work if we want to successfully support other units.”

Keeping a high level of maintenance readiness is hard work, but it is important for the Marines and sailors of CLR-17 to have working vehicles in order to be able to fufill the requirements of their missions.

“We need [CLR-17] to have the trucks up because the other parts of the unit need to be able to accomplish their missions,” said Cpl. Joshua A. Lopez, motor transportation mechanic, HQ Co., CLR-17, 1st MLG.

The Marines worked for extended hours over the 14 day period. In two weeks, they were able to complete repairs on 17 vehicles. The maintenance personnel also completed inspections to induct more than 35 vehicles into the repair cycle for further maintenance.

“I think we’ve been doing a good job,” said Pfc. Bret A. Levey, motor transportation mechanic, HQ Co., CLR-17, 1st MLG. “We’re getting a lot done and the mission is being accomplished.”

Due to many Marines being deployed supporting operations overseas, only a few mechanics were on hand to conduct the stand-down, but they were able to make a significant impact on the mission readiness of CLR-17.

“The Marines understand the work needs to get done,” said Regalado, 39, from San Antonio. “They understand the maintenance on these vehicles is important. [They preformed] exemplary, they exceeded my expectations, and it reflects greatly on their characters.”
