PUL-E KHUMRI, Afghanistan – International Security Assistance Force soldiers provided medical assessments and distributed radios to 20 families in Nawbot village, Baghlan province, March 18, during a routine patrol.

Troops of the U.S. Army A Company, 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, met with Mahen Khan, the village elder, last week to see what resources ISAF was able to provide his village.

“They did not have much so we wanted to help them,” said U.S. Army 1st Lt. Landon Fisher, 1st Platoon Leader, A Company, 2-18 Infantry, 170th IBCT. “It’s good to make small differences because it will eventually lead to keeping insurgents out of these Afghans’ lives.”

When Fisher saw two Afghans complaining about pain in their neck and abdomen respectively, he directed the platoon medic to provide aid.

“Many of the Troops have families and can relate when a child needs care,” added Fisher. “It’s rewarding to see these Afghan families happy when we are able to help.

“I feel good that the ISAF troops are helping us,” said Khan. They provide security and I am happy to continue our friendship and relationship with the troops.”

The village, which is approximately 10 km west of Pul-e Khumri city and north of the Dahaneh-i Ghowri region, is one of many villages ISAF troops routinely visit and provide humanitarian assistance. The 170th IBCT is one of many units contributed by the 16 nations in ISAF Regional Command North.
