BISMARCK, N.D. - TriWest Healthcare Alliance joined North Dakota Guardsmen at their 2011 Professional Development Workshop to present a $10,000 donation to the North Dakota National Guard Foundation at the Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck, N.D., March 5.
Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, accepted the donation check from Don Jenn, TriWest service area director; Joe Nortz, director, Guard and Reserve liason, and Amber Graves, beneficiary education representative.
"This donation is just one more act of generosity from TriWest,"
Sprynczynatyk said. "Over the years you have continually served our soldiers and airmen by supporting them and their families through the outstanding benefits you provide."
TriWest Healthcare Alliance is a U.S. Department of Defense contractor that provides access to healthcare for military members in the 21-state TRICARE West Region.
The North Dakota National Guard Foundation is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization that supports programs beneficial to North Dakota National Guard members and their families. The foundation has two primary support activities - the North Dakota National Guard Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors, or TAPS, and the Emergency Relief Fund, or ERF.
The North Dakota National Guard TAPS supports the national TAPS program, which provides services to those who have lost a loved one serving in the Armed Forces. The funds are used to cover transportation costs for families of fallen heroes to travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National TAPS program. North Dakota is one of only a few states to provide this benefit for their families of the fallen.
The North Dakota National Guard ERF provides financial support to Guardsmen in unforeseen emergency situations, such as natural disasters, accident, illness, fire or theft. All North Dakota National Guard soldiers, airmen and their dependents are eligible for assistance.
Contributions to the North Dakota National Guard Foundation are also used for the North Dakota Memorial to the Fallen in the Global War on Terrorism. The memorial was dedicated Sept. 11, 2009, and honors North Dakota heroes from all branches of service who died supporting the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The memorial is outside Fraine Barracks in Bismarck.
