CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq – Sgt. Timothy Hargers, a training noncommissioned officer with the 565th Quartermaster Company, 749th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 224th Sustainment Brigade, 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), and Fort Worth, Texas, native, received his reenlistment into the Army from a brigade commander Feb. 1 at Contingency Operating Base Adder, Iraq.

After serving four years in the Army, Hargers decided to do things a little bit differently than the norm for the company: He asked Col. Lisa Costanza, commander of the 224th Sust. Bde., and a Long Beach, Calif., native, to give him the oath of reenlistment.

“It was an honor to be reenlisted by the brigade commander, and I am very thankful that she came out to do it,” Hargers said.

Costanza said it is always an honor to administer the oath to a soldier. “The oath is a very special part of who we are as soldiers,” Costanza said. “I was very humbled that this soldier asked me to be part of this special day.”

Sgt. Shatyra Bryant, a retention noncommissioned officer with the 565th QM. Company, and a Los Angeles native, commented on Harger’s reenlistment.

“I have seen some interesting reenlistments,” Bryant said. “We had one soldier do it on the company roof, and another do it on top of a bunker, but this one takes the cake. I didn’t think we would see the colonel out here to do the ceremony.”

The ceremony was a bit different from the norm; all previous oaths of reenlistments were conducted by officers in the 565th QM Company. Hargers reenlisted for five years and will be heading to Fort Carson, Colo., after the current deployment ends.

“I chose to reenlist for a couple of reasons,” Hargers said. “First, it was my choice of duty station, I love the state, and I have always wanted to live there, and this gives me that opportunity. Second, times are tough, so it is good to know that I will have a job for the foreseeable future in an organization I love.”
