    Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES)

NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY, New Orleans – Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James Amos visited Marine Forces Reserve along with Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Carlton W. Kent and other three-and four-star generals Jan. 25 – 27.

The week started Monday evening with New Orleans culture as the group went on a three-hour riverboat cruise aboard the Creole Queen. During the ride, guests enjoyed traditional New Orleans food and danced to music played by the Marine Band New Orleans Jazz Combo.

Toward the end of the night, Lt. Gen. John Kelly, commander of MarForRes, gave a short speech and thanked everyone who helped make the cruise happen. Then, he handed out tokens of appreciation to the generals and their wives for attending the riverboat cruise.

The night came to a close as Amos gave the final words of the night and the Creole Queen returned to the dock.

The commandant and staff then visited Naval Support Activity New Orleans for breakfast Tuesday morning, followed by a day full of meetings.

Wednesday morning participants enjoyed a golf tournament at Lakewood Golf Club.

“It was a team building outing,” said Boyd, explaining the purpose of the commandant’s visit. “The commandant has two a year. The purpose is to gather the most senior leadership in the Marine Corps, three-and four-star generals, to discuss directions that concern the Marine Corps.”

Every team played 18 holes before sundown and then gathered at the golf shop for award presentations before everyone returned to the hotel after the day of team building.

The commandant held a recognition speech Thursday morning to recognize enlisted Marines and anyone who helped make the week a success. All the Marines received a coin and a handshake from the commandant.
