KABUL, Afghanistan – The Afghan National Security forces held its first joint-ministry graduation at the Ministry of Defense Jan. 18.
The ceremony, which graduated students from the Ministries of Interior and Defense, also included two females.
“This is huge,” said Col. Mark Fassl, inspector general, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. “It shows that we are making great gains in promoting not only an accountable situation in the ministries, but the old ideas of how females should serve are being tossed aside and broken down. It was really a great day for the MoD.
The month-long course trained students on how to conduct criminal investigations and inspections from inside the MOI and MOD ranks.
“The course was challenging at first, but the importance of the training and the value of the position to the Afghan forces made it worthwhile,” said Maryary Haidary, MoD graduate.
“One of the main objectives of the IG are the workshops,” said Gen. Abul Fazil, the MoD Inspector General. “They help us fight against corruption and embezzlement within the MoD.”
It is only fitting that the ministries joined together for an inspector general course, said Fazil.
“Training and professional knowledge portrays a main and vital role in performing the duties and enhancing professional expertise,” said Maj. Gen. Abdul Masoud Ragheb, inspector general, MOI. “Fortunately nowadays, this opportunity and environment has been facilitated, and both IG departments can access the training.”
