Afghan, coalition forces target Taliban leaders in Kandahar City

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces conducted a deliberate clearing operation targeting Taliban leaders in Kandahar City, Kandahar province yesterday.

The security force targeted Taliban leaders who operate within the Kandahar province denying them freedom of movement and safe havens in the province. The Taliban leaders are responsible for assassination attempts against Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan officials.

Security forces followed leads to the target location in the city, where Afghan and coalition forces conducted a search after securing the compound. Several suspected insurgents were detained after initial questioning at the scene.

The security force conducted the operation without firing their weapons and no women or children were injured or detained.
