Forces capture Taliban facilitator involved in FOB Lighting attack

KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban facilitator who provided improvised explosive device material for the Dec. 5 attack on Forward Operating Base Lighting during a security operation in Khost province yesterday.

The detained Taliban facilitator primarily operates in Paktiya province and travels to Kabul, Logar and Khost to provide Taliban with supplies to carry out attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is also associated with the Kabul attack network.

Security forces followed leads to the target location in Terayzai District, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The targeted insurgent and three additional suspected insurgents were detained after initial questioning at the scene.

No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
