KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban leader who is directly associated with the Dec. 18 suicide vehicle-borne improvised attack in Kandahar City during a deliberate clearing operation in Kandahar province yesterday.

The detained Taliban leader is responsible for supplying insurgents and planning attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the province.

Security forces followed leads to the target compound in Dand District, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The targeted Taliban leader was detained after initial questioning at the scene.

No women or children were injured or detained during this operation.
