ZABUL, Afghanistan – Soldiers from the Afghan National Army’s 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 205th Corps and members of the Nawbahar Afghan National Police discovered two improvised explosive devices Dec. 20 in a village in Nawbahar District, Zabul province.

Members of the ANA and ANP were conducting a routine patrol with U.S. Navy SEALs when village elders approached and revealed the location of the two IEDs. After identifying the IEDs, Afghan National Security Forces and SEAL personnel safely destroyed them.

“The elders of the village were very receptive to ANSF, willingly producing information regarding the location of the two IEDs,” said a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan official. “The villagers’ willingness to provide information shows progress in the efforts of the ANSF to provide security and stability in the area.”
