FORT BLISS, Texas - The magic of Christmas spirit was at Fort Bliss, at the Third Annual Team Bliss Christmas Festival held at Biggs Park, Dec. 3.

The festival was organized and created by multiple Team Bliss Agencies, to include Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Family Readiness Groups, Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers and others.

This year’s theme was “The Island of Misfit Toys”.

MWR provided a 24ft projection TV, and presented classic Christmas movies. Children of different ages sat on the grass and watched or watched it while they played at the playground.

Other activities were also offered, including a person who would be decorated as a Christmas tree. Audra West participated with her father and some friends. She laughed while she was being wrapped with toilet paper and Christmas ornaments. Although she didn't win, her family received tickets to the Monster Truck show for participating.

“This is amazing,” said Audra’s father, Sgt. Nate B. West with HHC 137. “My wife and her friend volunteered me to go up on stage.”

They got the tickets and were very excited.

MWR also provided free pictures with the Coca Cola Santa and the Polar Bear.

“We want to make sure people of all religion can enjoy the holiday season,” Lora Diem, Fort Bliss MWR community activity coordinator said.

Not everything was free but many thought the things they paid for were worth it. The FRG sold stockings and Santa hats and provided an area for people to decorate them.

“Who knew making stockings and Santa hats would be so fun,” said Kari L. Horony a volunteer with the FRG. “We ran out of everything. I don't know how well we did, but I had a good time tonight.” The fund raising money goes toward their Christmas party.

Soldiers with BOSS also have a party coming up and came with a game plan of their own. They sold a combo food pack containing a big turkey leg, chips and a drink.

According to Diem it's a great way for soldiers at Fort Bliss to make new memories and that's what the event was all about.
