BISMARCK, N.D. - Col. Robert G. Kilber, United States property and fiscal officer for the North Dakota National Guard, was honored at a retirement ceremony at Raymond J. Bohn armory, Bismarck, N.D., Dec. 5.
Kilber, of Hazen, has served for more than 38 years in the North Dakota National Guard.
"It has been a pleasure to serve with Col. Kilber over the years," said Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general. "I have always been struck by the way in which he has cared for other Soldiers. His level of leadership has been remarkable."
"It's been an amazing career for me," Kilber said. "I've been very fortunate to have served in the positions I've held and to have served with quality Soldiers and Airmen."
Kilber began his military career by enlisting in the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1972 with Detachment 1, Company A, 164th Engineer Battalion, based out of Mott, N.D.. In 1980, he attended Officer Candidate School where he earned Distinguished Graduate honors. He was later appointed to second lieutenant in August 1981. He has served in a multitude of assignments and units in the organization.
His military education includes graduating from the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Military Police Qualification Course, Engineer Officer Advanced Course Military Comptroller Course, Command and General Staff College, Army Logistics Management College Combat Service Support Pre-Command Course and the National Defense University Reserve Component National Securities Course.
In 1972, he graduated from Bismarck Junior College and later graduated from Dickinson State College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration.
Kilber has been married to his wife, Sandra, for more than 32 years. The couple has two children, Traci and Dave, and one granddaughter, Amanda. Dave serves as a Chief Warrant Officer Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the North Dakota Army National Guard.
