KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan Border Police and International Security Assistance Forces started a new training course for border police agents in Herat City, Herat province.
The 15-week recruit training course is being conducted by an Italian team of border police service members and 30 Italian military policemen, with support from experienced Afghan Border Police instructors and a U.S. Army logistics supply team.
Focusing on Afghan Constitution, penal codes, customs law, bank law and border policing procedures, the class is aimed at improving operational effectiveness of border police in taking control of western Afghan borders.
Coalition forces are expanding the training compound to handle the increasing number of recruits and instructors in future classes. New training areas, warehouses, as well as accommodations and dining facilities have been built to increase the course from 350 recruits to 850 by the end of 2011.
“This demanding course by training more and more Afghan Border Police servicemembers gives Afghan authorities more capabilities to secure their boundaries on their own in the next future,” said Lt. Col.
Stefano IZZO Task Force Grifo commander. “We are firmly convinced that the governance building is a priority task for a secure, stable and self-sustained Afghanistan in future.”
