“The humanitarian mission is important because it establishes and builds upon the community relations between the community and the AAF. The main goal of the humanitarian mission is to promote the Afghan Air Force and show the Afghan civilians that they are here to help,” said Maj. Burnett.

The first mission was to Mohammad Faquil Ferozi School which is located about seven miles west of Kabul International Airport. It has over ten thousand students and is located in a very poor part of town. At the school, the Afghan Air Force members handed out about six thousand pounds of supplies. The supplies included notebooks, back packs, pens, pencils, soccer balls, Frisbees, volleyballs, winter clothing and gloves. In addition, they handed out about 150 blankets to the teachers and administrators.

“I appreciate the Afghan Air Force for dropping off the humanitarian aid for us. The stuff that I received are pencils and notebooks so I now have something I can write with,” said Ahmad Tamia, a student at Mohammad Faquil Ferozi School.

The principal of the school said that he was very appreciative of the Afghan Air Force coming by and delivering much needed aid to his school. He also said that by doing so the Afghan Air Force is not just working for education but for security of the area as well.

The second visit was to a poor neighborhood about one mile from the school where they distributed about two thousand pounds of winter clothing, rubber boots, and back packs. Maj. Burnett said that the local community was very surprised to see two Afghan Air Force truck passing out supplies on their street.

“It doesn’t get any better than this. Going on these missions is definitely a highlight of my one year tour here in Afghanistan. I love seeing the kids when they receive the supplies. They get so excited! I know we are doing good things here, I can see it on their faces. Overall it was a huge success. We were able to build community relations with the school and neighborhood as well as promote the Afghan Air Force!” said Burnett.
